Despite this, she can’t help but befriend the smart and sweet Neery and feel the beginning of something like belonging. Can she find a way to let others get close to her, or has her mother already taught her that trust is impossible?

Evie is not the girl she was a few months ago. Determined to escape her small-town roots, she withdraws from her friends and breaks up with her long-time boyfriend. When the older and worldlier Riley shows up in her life, everyone around her may have doubts, but she’s fallen hard and fast. The sequel to Middle of Nowhere

It’s summertime in Briar and Evie isn’t looking forward to it at all. As if the long days of working minimum wage jobs and missing her boyfriend - who is home for the summer - weren’t bad enough, she also has to contend with the rifts in her and her dad’s relationship, further divided by his new girlfriend. When her best friend Johnny makes a surprising return to town, it seems things are about to take a turn for the better. Johnny wants things to be the same way they always were, but how can they be when everything has changed so much?

Asa is determined to make this the best summer of her life. She’s happy to finally spend time with her newfound friends and her wonderful boyfriend, doing all the things that she has never been able to do because of having to follow around her flighty mother. The season doesn’t start out as she expects, though, when a rumor threatens to divide the relationships in her life. Suddenly, everyone is judging her, including the people she thought would always be on her side. How can she move forward in her life, past the girl she used to be, when it feels like the old her threatens to upend everything?
